These are key elements to making the surgery a success and hastening recovery. If you wear contact lenses, you should stop wearing them before your initial check-up. Contact lenses slightly alter the shape of the cornea, and this alteration can affect the degree to which your vision refraction is changed. Soft lenses only need to be stopped using a minimum of two weeks before surgery; however, if you wear hard lenses or rigid gas permeable lenses, they should be removed a minimum of four and three weeks, respectively. The doctor may choose to use a procedure called Wavefront Mapping days prior to the surgery. This test will pass a beam of light through your cornea and lens and map the refractions along your entire eye. This will give the doctor an idea of the magnitude of required correction for each eye. It is also important that at least one day before the surgery you do not use any creams of makeup. This is to prevent debris from getting in your eyes and causing incorrect incisions to be made. Also, loose debris could cause infections and seriously hurt your chances for a quick recovery. Previous | Next
